The call to embrace fear and take action seems to be everywhere I look these days, from my nearest and dearest to blog posts and FaceBook feeds. Clearly this drive to create our own opportunities is gaining momentum, with more and more people striving to live through their passions. Exciting times my friends!
Whether your dream is to write, take dance lessons, open a business, travel-the possibilities are endless, it can feel incredibly scary to take those first steps.
“Take a chance! What’s the worst that could happen?” “People want to support you, and if they don’t, who cares! You can’t please them all.”
This is advice we’d all easily give to a friend, partner, or child embarking on a new venture, but can find difficult to take ourselves. I love writing, but have been reluctant to share it. Who do I think I am anyway? But I’m getting over this, because in the end, I don’t want to look back and see risks not taken, all because I was afraid of failure. Do you? And if we’re going to encourage our kids to pursue their dreams, we’d better walk the walk.
In this spirit of bravery, I sent a couple of articles out into the world. One was accepted, (yay)! The other, well, the crickets are still chirping, but I feel just fine about that. The best part of the experience was getting over the fear, enough to go for it anyway. Now the prospect of rejection seems less daunting. I know it won’t kill me, and I can always try again. And again.
So can you.
So my friends, is there something you’re itching to try? Something you always wanted to make more time for? I urge you to take a baby step, or a great leap towards your passions. Today! Then tell me all about it in the comments.
I double dog dare you.
“Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
